Australia and New Zealand by Christine Lindop

     This book is an introduction book of Australia and New Zealand. Australia is a flat land and area that its altitude is over 600 meter occupies only 5% of whole land. And the land is vast but its population is 17million and the most part of people live in southern region. There has an indigenous people called aborigine and they have lived there since 40 thousand years ago. After British people invaded in 1788, they have been suffering from discrimination and residential restrictions, and they have lost their own languages and culture. Now, their life getting better. The most part of Australian continent is dessert, especially that is center and west land, and Australia has wet season and dry season.

     Australia has seven big cities, which are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, and Canberra. The capital is Canberra from 1927. Additionally, Australia is famous for animals and naturals. Ayers Rock, called Ururu by Aborigine, is said that it is one of the most beautiful thing in Australia in this book. Now, I'm interested in Australia for studying abroad. 

     New Zealand is consisted by two bigger island and a lot of small island. All of them are small and very close to sea. The acreage is wider than England but the population is only 3.4million. Additionally, half of them is under 30 years old. New Zealand is young country. 

     Contrary to Australia, indigenous people called Maori is familiar in New Zealand. In 1960 to 1970's , people begun to learn Maori's language and life styles, which move was mainly leaded by young people. Now 400 thousand Maori people live in and inherit their own culture.
